Hoang Minh Company is a unit specializing in providing main engine power measurement services to send results certified by the Register to the design unit to calculate EEDI energy efficiency.

ROTATION AND POWER DATA ARE OBTAINED FROM THE DISPLAY METER AND POWER MEASURING DEVICE MOUNTED ON THE PROPELLER SHAFT

The required energy efficiency design index (required EEDI) is specified in the national technical regulation QCVN 26: 2018/BGTVT on marine pollution prevention systems of ships and in the amendments and supplements to the Appendix VI MARPOL convention took effect on January 1, 2013

- The speed test must be performed on the same area, each test run, the starting point must be in the same position, the forward and reverse run must be on the same straight line and in the same area of the previous run. This running condition requirement is to avoid varying sea and wind states.

- The duration of the power-speed test must be long enough to ensure the measurement is performed accurately. Run time must be the same for all runs, minimum 10 minutes.

- The test running direction must be such that it runs in the main parallel direction.

       - During testing, the rudder angle must be kept at a minimum position while maintaining a stable forward direction. During the test run, the angular speed must not exceed 5 degrees.

- The stabilization period must be long enough to ensure that the ship's state is stable before the start of each speed test. During the stabilization phase, the ship must be kept oriented with the smallest rudder angle.

- To ensure the ship reaches a stable state, the measured values of shaft rotation and ship speed must be controlled at the control position. The state is considered stable when the shaft rotation and ship speed are stable.

-   Try 5 reverse and forward runs with 3 power modes as follows:

+ 2 reverse - forward runs (at the same power mode) about 85% of maximum continuous capacity (85% M.C.R)

+ 2 reverse – forward runs (at the same power mode) at EEDI power range (75% M.C.R)

+ 1 reverse - forward run (in the same power mode) at about 65% M.C.R and 100% MCR capacity.
